Those that know me are aware of the white band that I wear on my left wrist. The band represents the ONE campaign and their website. The campaign has been slowly gaining momentum with hits to their website, print and media ads, and now an attempt at breaking a world record. I’m sure you’re wondering just how this involves the Magic City…
It’s because this is one of the cities participating in the effort. The venue will be Vulcan Park and it will be part of the Vulcan After Tunes series this coming Sunday, October 15. Nickel Back’s Chris Thile will be doing an acoustic performance that afternoon befinning at 3 p.m. Alas while I will not be able to join in the festivities due to prior commitments, I hope that some of you will be able to take part in this effort to stand up against poverty. Click here to learn more about the event at Vulcan Park (and don’t forget about their MySpace page). Click here to view other events happening in a 30-mile radius in case you can’t take part in the one at Vulcan or if you want to set one up yourself. There’s also a post about the launch of a new product line mentioned on their blog as well, accessible by clicking here. It may seem a little extreme, but it may be one way that people can become involved in an issue that definitely affects portions of our region in ways that many may not be aware of. Spread the word if you can, and enjoy the day.
Cheers.
P.S. You may also want to consider showing up at the Bottletree this evening for the sounds of Bill Frisell, Jack DeJohnette and the Jerome Harris Trio. It sounds like a relaxing way to start your weekend a day early.
