The baby giraffe at the Birmingham Zoo can now officially be called… Rowan. A 4th grader at Mountain Brook Elementary School won the right to name the newest resident of the Birmingham Zoo for his teacher, Mrs. Loretta Rowan. Apparently she really loves giraffes, and now everybody knows about it!
Click here to learn more about the honor. According to the zoo’s official website, more than 1,200 names were submitted in this contest, with voting closing last week. The image to your left comes from the zoo’s website, showing a surprised Mrs. Rowan in her classroom this morning as Birmingham Zoo officials informed her and Bill Perry, one of her students, about the decision. Check back for more info later on today.
