It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to do one of these. Hopefully we’ll be able to return to a frequent posting of these activities and opportunities. Here are two of them; pass them on to anyone that you know.
I got an e-mail last night from Tosha Gaines, a Birmingham native and a part of the Lupus Foundation of America. Due to all of the medical stuff from earlier this summer, I dropped the ball on getting information out on one of her events; I’m not doing that again. Here’s a portion of the e-mail she sent me in my Jaycees capacity:
On September 23, we are planning the First Annual Walk-A-Thon for Lupus Awareness. We need your help, I was wondering if there is any way possible that you can help us doing the event with registration, checkpoints, or any other services on that day. I also want to know if you guys are interested in participating in the walk a thon as well.
There are approximately 30,000 Alabamians including women, men, and children who are affected with this disease. As a family member of a Lupus patient, I can honestly say that I understand many of the frustrations that Lupus patients and their family members encounter. In 2005, my youngest brother, William Gaines, was diagnosis with this disease. William was undiagnosed for about ten years. His case is a prime example of the lack of awareness of this deliberating disease.
Please help us make this event successful. You can contact me at 821-3583 or email me.
If you would like more information about lupus, you can go to www.lupus.org or contact me about as well.
I’m sure that she’d love to hear from anyone about this cause that does not normally have the spotlight pointed at it.
Of course, Jennifer would kill me if I didn’t mention Thursday’s upcoming event for Junior Achievement of Greater Birmingham at (local) restaurant in Vestavia City Center. Young, Hot & Famous includes a Celebriducky Derby. You may want to click on the image below to learn more about the event, being held in conjunction with YP Birmingham. We’ll give you an update about the world of young professionals in the near future.
Cheers.
