A question for your consideration

I’ve taken a couple of days off from writing. No really good reason except that there was not a lot to write about. I will post again this evening, but since yesterday was officially the first day of summer, I was interested in seeing what if any responses came back for the following question?

What do you enjoy most about the summer?

Now I would hope that some of the answers have some sort of Birmingham angle to them, however I know that there are readers from all over the place, so it may give some folks an idea of things to do out of town as well. Post your comments and we’ll see what happens.

I look forward to seeing the responses. Hopefully I’ll see some of you at the screening of Big Fish this evening in Linn Park. Click here and scroll to the bottom of this post to get more information.

Cheers.

a few summers ago some i road-tripped (with very little money) around the south, and went to birmingham for 4 days
i remember 3 things:
1. oppressive heat, but not any more oppressive than how hot it was at home in columbia, s.c.
2. the sloss furnace company, which i decided didn't make furnaces at all, but made floss for sloths. slothfloss, or sloss for short.
3. it was after ruben studdard won American Idol, so every sign around town had something referring to the win (Go Ruben! Ruben Rocks!, etc). i'd never watched the show, so i just thought lots of places really liked corn-beef sandwiches and couldn't spell "reuben."

As a person who uses a bicycle for most of his intown trips, I'm can always detect a decrease in automobile traffic on city streets during the summer months. Maybe it's because my town's motorists are off motoring in other people's towns. Maybe they are all in Birmingham. At any rate, I like the summer because there are fewer 4,000-pound objects speeding by within a few feet of my left elbow.
