It’s one of America’s most loved days… Tax Day! Despite the fact that we were given a couple of extra days of reprieve this year, there are several people, including yours truly, that have waited until the last minute. Luckily, mine have already been completed, it’s just the parting with the money online during lunch that’s hard this year. Some people choose to unwind from the stress of tax season by thinking about calming places. I’ve chosen to post a picture of one of the most calm places for me to be whenever I need to calm down, the waterfront area near the ferry terminal on Staten Island and the Ballpark at St. George, home of the Staten Island Yankees. Here’s a link to the official description of the structure rising in the back, courtesy of HOK Sustainable Design, the guys who designed it. It’s a great example of sustainable design in transportation development, and a beautiful sight to behold on a summer evening, which is when this image was taken.
Others will choose to celebrate this great American experience by partying (still really don’t get that one, but I’m all about having excuses to party. One of the first organized parties that I ever learned about is right here in Birmingham, 1040 Fest. Those who still choose to print their tax return and send it in the old fashioned way can come in and join the fun as the Central City Neighborhood Association and residents from all over the city enjoy food and music while they try to forget about that tax return they just filed. It starts around 4 p.m. and will end at… 10:40 p.m. The link referenced is with the Alabama Bureau of Tourism (pretty cool actually, when filing your taxes makes the state tourism website). IF you’re in town, come and join in the fun. If not, check out CNN and see if it makes the news again like it did last year.
Enjoy the day (as much as you can)!
Cheers.
