It’s cold out there and that for some reason has me happy that I’m not participating in the Mercedes Marathon festivities this weekend in downtown Birmingham. This is not because I hate running (far from it), but because I’m saving the potential pain of not finishing my first race in over a year for the end of March in Charleston where my friend Adrian will be the only one there to watch.
I will still be out there freezing myself to death cheering on those that are choosing to take part in this endurance test (both known to me and unknown) as well as thinking about those who chose to do the same thing on an albeit flatter course back in Georgia last week.
I’ll also be checking out these interesting activities tonight as a way of dealing with escaping the cold weather. I hope you’ll consider one or both of these as options, especially with Valentine’s Day fast approaching:
Recycled Wardrobe Grand Opening/Fashion Show, 5:30 p.m.
I’ve written about this new consignment store before (scroll down); this is their official grand opening celebration and it shines a spotlight on an area of Birmingham, Alabama that is starting to be noticed by everyone. Ensley has several projects taking shape now in addition to several people looking to do their part to revitalize the area, including the owners of this new business.
Naked Art Gallery “Modern Love” opening reception, 5 – 9 p.m.
If you’re over on the east side, this opening is taking place in Forest Park and presents handcrafted jewelry and valentines presented by various artists. The show will be hanging until Feb. 24, however they have just announced that they will be open all day Monday and until 9 p.m. on Valentine’s Day, just in case you’re running a little late in getting that gift. Click here to learn more about their offerings.
I’ve been slow in updating recently due to a lingering illness. Hopefully I can shake this thing soon.
There’s a lot more to talk about, but we’ll save some of that for this evening.
Enjoy the day,
Cheers.
