The following is the list of community radio station with online streams that was promised as an addendum to yesterday’s post. In preparing this list for the site, I found that many of them are in fact college student run stations providing a service to the community or an outlet where locals can practice their skills and be kept abreast of issues. The locations of these stations also represent a fairly interesting list of progressive cities located throughout the country. I’ll stress that my use of the word progressive means the idea of being willing to step outside the box and being creative instead of the modern interpretation along political lines. Here’s the list:
Whole Wheat Radio – Talkeetna, AK
WMUA – Amherst, MA
KUNC – Greely, CO
KBGA – Missoula, MT
WNUR – Chicago, IL
WDCE – Richmond, VA
WORT – Madison, WI
KAOS – Olympia, WA
KUGS – Bellingham, WA
WNRN – Charlottesville, VA
KRCL – Salt Lake City, UT
KOOP – Austin, TX
WDVX – Knoxville, TN
KBOO – Portland, OR
WXYC – Chapel Hill, NC
KTAO – Taos, NM
I am also uploading a PDF (CBBR meeting recap) of the e-mail sent out summarizing the meeting of the Committee for Better Birmingham Radio. Following this as it continues to develop will be fun. One question to consider is whether or not Birmingham, Alabama is truly ready for the type of station that these links represent, one open to all discussion topics. Time will tell.
Speaking of following the local music scene…
Roscoe Robinson will be performing at Bottletree on Saturday evening. This will be Robinson’s second performance at one of the city’s newest music venues, the first time as part of the CD release party for The Birmingham Sound. We posted images from the event here. John Ciba, the producer of the CD, will be back visiting from Chicago to spin as well. It will be one of several places to be on that evening. Click back a few days after checking out the pictures to get an idea of just how great the CD is.
More after realizing that life has to slow down,
Cheers.
