I’m in need of some help. OK, now that most of my friends have stopped laughing and saying that we’ve known that for years…
While I was out of the office last week, I remembered that I had scheduled a holiday decorating day in downtown Ensley for Saturday morning. Yes, I realize that it’s the morning of the Iron Bowl and since CBS picked up the game for a 2:34 p.m. start time that many would say there are much more important things that need to be done that morning, such as getting food ready and making sure that you’ve paid up the cable bill so that you can enjoy that crystal clear reception during the festivities.
NOTE: For those of my friends outside of Alabama reading this, think of the Iron Bowl as the Georgia v. Florida game (the former world’s largest cocktail party) and think of it concentrated to one state. Yeah, it’s a little scary.
However all I’m asking for less than 4 hours of your time on Saturday morning to brave climbing really tall ladders to make downtown Ensley a little cheerier for the holidays. Bows were created by one of the local merchants, Robert & Emma Florist, and several merchants have said that they will lend us ladders to put the bows up. Currently the bows will only be placed on the decorative lampposts located along Avenue E between 18th and 20th Streets and 19th Street between Avenues D & F. I’m working on getting some donuts and coffee (donuts definite, coffee’s a maybe) for those that are able to come out and assist. The ideal number of volunteers would be 12, but more would be appreciated (I’d just have to find more ladders).
If there is anyone interested in helping out, I’d be eternally grateful. So would the merchants in downtown Ensley. We will be meeting in front of Robert and Emma Florist (1812 Avenue E) beginning at 9 a.m. this Saturday. Just look for the beat up Buick Regal parked somewhere near by and don’t be surprised if you already see bows up when you get there. If you’re interested (or if you’re not and just feel like leaving smart remarks) you can either post a comment to this post or send an e-mail to yours truly.

For all of those Beaujolais Nouveau fans out there, tonight’s the night that the new bottles are introduced to the world and when yet another excuse to have a happy hour ensues. While the plan was to have a party, we’ve realized that competing with the Iron Bowl is impossible. So we’re just going to buy a bottle for ourselves tonight. Here’s a link if you’re curious as to what I’m talking about.
Does anyone have a copy of Panther or Jaguar (PPC) that they aren’t using?
We’ll see what else we can come up with later on this evening; and thanks again.
Enjoy the day.
Cheers.
