Update on the Cabana
For all those interested, the signage proposal for the former Cabana Hotel building mentioned in this Monday post was approved by the city’s Design Review Committee. The judge in the case regarding rights to ownership found for Leer Corporation in May. An appeal of that decision has been filed. The start of the project depends on the date of the hearing of the appeal. But it appears that plans are moving forward, which is always good.
There’s another candidate for governor?
Apparently there is… Loretta Nall is still running a campaign for governor. If you can’t tell, I don’t take sides on political issues on this blog. It’s more about getting the facts out. Nall is scheduled to make an appearance at the next Speaker’s Corner, taking place this Friday at Safari Cup Coffee. Click here to view the post on Birmingham Blues that talks about it. The real reason I’m pointing this out is because of the discovery in the post of a gubernatorial debate on October 24th on the campus of University of Alabama at Birmingham.
While our recent elections and runoffs demonstrated that we’re not as interested in politics as some would like us to be, this upcoming election will allow us to help shape the immediate future of the state of Alabama and Birmingham’s future in particular. The recent buzz created by Kelly’s comments could help lead to more concerns citizens in the upcoming elections. I’d start thinking from now about questions that you may have for the candidates. I’d also start learning as much as possible about all three and encoruaging people to get out and vote! Let’s show them that we care about what happens…
Some help for Friday’s post
Friday marks one year for the Ramblings! I’m surprised that I’ve been able to write that much. While I doubt that I’ll get many responses, I’m hoping to get some feedback as to which posts are among your favorites. Just post your vote for your favorites in the comments section and we’ll see what happens.
More later,
Cheers.
