I had a similar approach when I was in Savannah. There were some Saturday mornings when I'd just wake up early, get in the car and pick a direction. I never quite knew where I'd end up or when I'd get home (something that frustrated folks a lot before I finally broke down and got a cell phone).

The people you meet as a result of those trips are one of the best things about them and the memories that yo get to hold on to are something that never truly leaves you.

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

What better place is there to play than in your backyard? I know I'm getting older, and I've done more than my share of traveling when I was younger, so maybe I'm just getting less interesting as I go, but I can't think of one.

A couple of years ago, when I was trying to figure out short, regular get aways to take with my hubby, I took a map and drew a circle on it around my home, using a 100-mile radius, and started searching the internet to see if there was anything that might be fun to visit within that circle. We're still making trips in that circle to events and places that we've never seen before, including parks, wine/beer/food tastings, museums, theaters, festivals, meet-ups and more.

We've met a lot of people on our expeditions. We see some of them regularly at different meet-ups, but when we look around for something new, my husband and I are just looking around for something we might enjoy together. Anything and everyone else we come across is just an added bonus to the adventure!
