The Ticker: Birmingham Barons to host 2009 Southern League All-Star Game

Birmingham Barons logoBirmingham, AL is fortunate to have the Double AA affiliate of the Chicago White Sox playing in Hoover’s Metropolitan Stadium. The Birmingham Barons have been quite busy recently, updating their website, announcing an extension of the player development contract with the White Sox through 2010 and preparing to host an exhibition game against the parent club as the 2007 home opener on March 29. (Insert comment about the fact that I won’t be in town to go to the game sucking here).

Well, the Barons can add another highlight to their preseason of excitement. The team has been awarded the 2009 Southern League All Star Game. This will be the first time that the team has hosted the event since 1982, when it was held at historic Rickwood Field on Birmingham’s west side. Click here to learn more about the announcement. Now if we could only get tickets…

Cheers.

P.S. Comment if you can about this morning’s post.
